AAMVA¶
The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), founded in 1933, is a voluntary nonprofit educational organization dedicated to developing model programs in motor vehicle administration, police traffic services, and highway safety.
AAMVA develops and maintains numerous information systems that facilitate the electronic exchange of identity information between organizations. This includes verifying driver's licenses, state-issued identification cards, passport details, social security numbers, lawful status, and vital events.
Driver’s licenses are widely used as proof of identity in the United States and Canada. The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) has standardized the design of the PDF417 barcodes and the information they must contain.
FULL DIGITAL ONBOARDING + AAMVA¶
During the Veridas full digital onboarding process, users follow two steps: capturing their driver's license and taking a selfie while undergoing an active or passive liveness detection process.
This process verifies the authenticity of the driver's license and confirms that the user is the legitimate owner of the document (biometric match).
Veridas system extracts the information encoded in the PDF417 for those driver's licenses that possess it.
Thanks to our connection to AAMVA, some fields derived from the PDF417 can be cross-verified against data from the issuing agency. Those fields are:
- ID number
- Jurisdiction code
- Full name
- Birthdate
- Document expiration date
BENEFITS¶
Through the integration with AAMVA, Veridas provides an additional security layer to help mitigate identity theft and fraud risks.
AAMVA's Driver's License Data Verification (DLDV) Service aims to offer Veridas a real-time connection for verifying all extracted information from the PDF417. This ensures a consistent process during digital onboarding.
Veridas submits DL data, and the AAMVA service returns a flag for each data element, indicating whether it matches the information on file with the issuing jurisdiction. Veridas returns 2 new scores: ValidasScoreAAMVACheck
and ValidasScoreAAMVAAuthenticity
.
AAMVA service is available for almost all U.S. states.
IMPORTANT NOTE
The service is not available for documents from California, Louisiana, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Utah.
Finally, before implementing this service, AAMVA must approve all customers, thereby validating Veridas as a key player in the identity verification realm.
Pricing
A fee for this service will be added to the full identity verification process.
