RENIEC

Important Information

This is an opt-in functionality. If your organization is interested in using it, please contact your sales representative.

The Registro Nacional de Identificación y Estado Civil (RENIEC) is an autonomous Peruvian government agency responsible for:

  • Issuing the National Identity Document (DNI).
  • Recording vital events such as births, marriages, and deaths.

Established by Law Nº 26497 on 12 July 1995, RENIEC ensures reliable citizen identification and safeguards the electoral roll.

RENIEC provides several real-time information services that enable public and private entities to verify Peruvian citizens' identities.

Full Digital Onboarding + RENIEC

In Veridas' full digital onboarding process, the user:

  • Captures the front and back of the DNI.
  • Takes a selfie, undergoing either active or passive liveness detection.

The Veridas platform then:

  • Authenticates the DNI by verifying security patterns, chip/NFC, and MRZ/QR codes, if present.
  • Automatically extracts printed and encoded data (e.g., DNI number, names, surnames, date of birth, issuance date, check digit).
  • Performs biometric face-to-selfie comparison.

With the RENIEC connection, selected extracted fields are verified online against the official registry:

  • DNI number is validated.
  • Name and last name is validated against the record found in RENIEC and the extracted by Veridas.
  • Facial biometry is validated against the record found in RENIEC and the selfie or document face cut sent to Veridas.

Veridas returns a boolean flag (match/no-match) for both the name and face validation:

Score Description
ValidasScoreRENIECCheck Indicates whether the DNI number sent by Veridas matches exactly with the official DNI records held by RENIEC. This score specifically confirms if the DNI number provided during onboarding exists and aligns correctly with RENIEC's database.
ValidasScoreRENIECAuthenticity Represents an overall authenticity score, verifying if the personal details (such as first name and last name) returned by RENIEC match those extracted from the DNI. Additionally, it confirms biometric consistency by comparing the user's selfie (captured during onboarding) against the facial image returned by RENIEC. This score combines both RENIEC validations and Veridas anti-fraud checks into one holistic assessment.
ValidasScoreHitIdentityTest Global identity verification score, which equals 1 only if both ValidasScoreRENIECCheck and ValidasScoreRENIECAuthenticity are 1. If either score is 0, this score will also be 0, indicating a failed overall identity validation.

Info

These scores do not affect the ValidationGlobalScore.
